WM PCC Election 2024

A statement from Jay Singh-Sohal, former West Midlands PCC Candidate (2019-21):

“I care deeply about tackling rising crime in the West Midlands, but believe our current PCC system is not fit for this purpose in our large, vibrant yet complex region. The policy levers to better affect crime lie within the Mayor’s office, particularly with the devolved powers our region has received.

“That’s why since 2021 I’ve made the case for merger with the Mayoralty so there can be synergy and impact upstream to tackle criminality. Sadly, the roles will now not be unified for local elections in May 2024.

“My focus continues to be on saving our police stations including in Solihull & Sutton Coldfield from Labour’s closure plans; these are areas that are paying ever-more in local policing precept and require a more effective local policing service to get crime down.

“This I will continue to do with much zeal as a local Conservative campaigner and communicator, as I will not be re-standing for the role of PCC.”

Ends.
